What happens to your document
A .docx is a zip of XML files. The converter opens it in memory, walks through the body, tables, headers, footers and footnotes, and changes only three things in each Urdu run:
- The text is converted with the same engine and options as the text converter, so digits, hamza, bari ye and brackets come out the same way.
- The font is set to Jameel Noori Nastaleeq when going to Unicode (install it from our Urdu fonts download page), or back to the InPage font name when going to InPage.
- Direction: converted runs and their paragraphs are marked right-to-left for Unicode, so Word aligns them to the right and puts punctuation on the correct side.
Everything else, from page size and margins to images, styles, comments and tracked changes, is copied through byte for byte. The result is saved as yourfile-unicode.docx or yourfile-inpage.docx, so your original is never overwritten.

Starting from an InPage file
Browsers cannot read InPage's own file format yet. Open your document in InPage and either copy the text into the InPage to Unicode converter, or use InPage's option to save or export the text for Word, then convert that .docx here. If the exported file uses a font name we do not recognise, tick "Convert all text".
After converting: fonts and line spacing in Word
If the Urdu shows as boxes or plain Naskh, Jameel Noori Nastaleeq is not installed; install it and reopen the file. If the tops of letters like ک and گ are cut off, select the text and set Home ▸ Paragraph ▸ Line spacing to 1.5. To make a whole paragraph read right to left, press Ctrl+Right Shift.

Which fonts are detected as InPage?کون سے فونٹ ان پیج کے طور پر پہچانے جاتے ہیں؟
Runs set in the font names InPage uses when it exports text, such as InPage Nastaliq, Nastaliq InPage, Urdu Nastaliq and Noori Nastaliq, are treated as InPage text. Everything in other fonts, like English in Times New Roman or text already in Jameel Noori Nastaleeq, is left alone.

What if my file uses a different font name?اگر میری فائل میں فونٹ کا نام مختلف ہو تو؟
Tick "Convert all text" before choosing the file. Every text run is then passed through the converter whatever its font. English letters and numbers are not changed by the InPage mapping, so mixed documents still come out correctly. If your font name should be on our list, send it to us from the Contact page.

Does it keep tables and images?کیا ٹیبل اور تصویریں محفوظ رہتی ہیں؟
Yes. Only the text inside each run changes, plus the font name and the right-to-left flag. Tables, images, headers, footers, footnotes, page size and margins are copied through untouched. Text inside tables, headers, footers and footnotes is converted along with the body.

Why can't I open an .inp file directly?ان پیج کی اصل فائل براہ راست کیوں نہیں کھلتی؟
InPage saves .inp files in its own closed format, which a browser cannot read reliably yet. Open the file in InPage and either copy the text (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C) into the text converter, or save or export it for Word and convert that .docx here.
